The latest BBS System Newsletter, updated Feb. 5, 2026, has these items:
1. It may be winter, but Arkansas has run the gamut of weather, between
flooding and tornadoes, to snow and ice. So, if you can't connect to the
BBS, please try again later.
2. I was able to rebuild the file area descriptions, but a glitch has
developed with the uploads feature, so I have DISABLED them. Except for
users on restricted access, all users have full download privileges.
3. Several years back, I was part of an FTN Message network called the
RadioWeatherNetwork. I found some old files from it, so I'm going to
go through and see if I can revive it.
4. The SLYEDIT message editors on the BBS got corrupted somehow, but I
have added FSEdit and ICEEdit (which I really like). I could not get the
registration key for SyncEdit to work, and I'm waiting on new copies of
SLYEDIT.
5. Microsoft support for Windows 10 ENDED with the October, 2025 security
updates. Thanks to a gifted Beelink Computer from Sysop Dave Perussel, and
a special NTVDM64 utility that he also installed, the BBS is running under
Windows 11.
6. Instead of using the Telnet Email Verifier, I have a CallerID Check
door for new users, with a CAPTCHA utility at logon for all users. The
values change around the clock. The ONLY "Email" is to send Netmail to
an FTN (FIDONet), or QWK Networking system...or to send Feedback To The
Sysop. This keeps spammers and bots from using the BBS to relay their
garbage.
7. Visiting Sysops and Ham Radio Operators are eligible for an access
level upgrade...see the appropriate bulletins for info. Being a ham
radio operator or Visiting Sysop is NOT required to use the BBS.
8. ALL USERS are REQUIRED to read the System Disclaimer to access and
use the BBS. Your continued use of the BBS is your ACCEPTANCE of
what is in it, whether you read it or not.
Please Leave Feedback To Sysop with questions, comments, or glitch
reports. Thanks for logging on to The Thunderbolt BBS!!
