System News Update
From

The latest BBS System Newsletter, updated May 18, 2026, has these items:
1. The BBS was down much of May 18, due to internet and power issues. New
APC UPS batteries will be ordered in early June, 2026.
2. Several days of thunderstorms are forecast through late May, 2026...so,
the BBS may be down more than usual.
3. The BBS has been UPGRADED to Synchronet version 3.21e
4. I have made several changes to the BBS, as follows:
A) I have shortened the logon sequence for Verified Users In Good Standing.
B) Due to things in my life outside the BBS, I'm no longer able to update
the weather data in a timely manner.
C) The AI-WX and Solar Data doors have been moved to the Ham Radio and
Weather Related Bulletins doors.
D) I had to REMOVE the email feature, due to spambots proliferation bots.
See the bulletin on "Email And The BBS" for more details.
4. I rebuilt the file area descriptions, but a glitch has developed, to
where uploads had to be disabled.
5. Several years back, I was part of an FTN Message network called the
RadioWeatherNetwork. I found some old files from it, so I'm going to go
through and see if I can revive it.
6. The SLYEDIT message editors on the BBS got corrupted somehow, where no
(including the Sysop) could send, or reply to messages. I have found the
ICEEdit utility (which I really like), and also have FSEdit.
7. Microsoft security updates for Windows 10 ENDED with the October, 2025
updates. Thanks to a gifted Beelink Computer from Sysop Dave Perussel, and
a special NTVDM64 utility that he also installed, the BBS is running under
Windows 11.
8. I finally heard from current developer/owner of my original BBS software,
Tom Watt, after a long hiatus. He is going to rebuild GT Power from scratch,
bringing it up to date with similar features that Synchronet has.
9. I am in the process of changing my amateur radio callsign, and will be
updating the needed bulletins, once this takes place.
10. Visiting Sysops and Ham Radio Operators are eligible for an access
level upgrade.
11. ALL USERS are REQUIRED to read the System Disclaimer to access and use
the BBS.
Please Leave Feedback To Sysop with questions, comments, or glitch reports. Thanks for logging on to The Thunderbolt BBS!!
